Vicki Jeanne Routhier (née Layaou), 65, of Webster, New York, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family, friends, and beloved cats on May 18, 2026.
Born and raised in Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania, Vicki was the daughter of John Layaou Jr. and Barbara Hood. She was East Rochester High School class of 1979, graduated from Bryant & Stratton College in Rochester, New York, and went on to build a life centered on family, friendship, service, and compassion.
Vicki proudly served in the United States Navy as a Postal Clerk from February 1982 to September 1984. Following her military service, she dedicated 25 years to the New York State Unified Court System’s Mental Hygiene Legal Service, where she worked as a secretary and was respected for her dedication, reliability, and care for others.
Vicki is survived by her former husband Glenn Routhier, and their children, Jennifer Westcott (née Routhier) and her husband, Stuart, of Webster, New York; Joshua Routhier and his husband, Jeremy, of Troy, New York; and her cherished granddaughter, Ava, who brought immense happiness to her life and whom she loved dearly.
She is also survived by her brothers, John Layaou III and David Layaou; her favorite cousin, Donny Pangburn and his wife, Theresa, of Illinois; and her Aunt Sandy Baker and her husband John of Indiana. She was fortunate to have many close friends throughout her life, including Heather Marvin, Therese Hurley, Gary Cornelius, Karla Cannarozzo, Colleen Lieberg, Staci Palmer, and LaTorya Robinson-Cooper, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
A lifelong animal lover, Vicki shared her home and her affection with many cats over the years. Among those especially dear to her were Milo, Penuche, Toulouse, Pandora, Linus, Ritz, Hobo, Sadie, Arlo, and Jello. Caring for animals came naturally to her, and her home was always brighter because of the pets she welcomed into it. She also had a particular fondness for giraffes which always put a smile on her face.
Vicki enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, the color teal, following astrology, and hosting Christmas gatherings that brought loved ones together. She was a fan of Oprah, Elton John, Martina McBride, Toby Keith, Adele, and Cher. Her favorite TV shows included The Twilight Zone, Gunsmoke, and I Love Lucy. One of the experiences she treasured most was a trip with her children to Paris, a place that held special meaning for her and remained one of her favorite memories.
Those who knew Vicki will remember her candor, loyalty, integrity, resilience, and sense of humor. She valued the people she loved and was always willing to offer support, encouragement, or simply a listening ear. Her family, friends, and beloved pets were the center of her world, and the impact she made on their lives will not be forgotten.
Vicki’s memory lives in the hearts of those who loved her, the stories shared about her, and in the many lives she helped to shape in her brief time on this earth.
She is deeply missed.
