Stephen John Vickery

Rochester, NY

Deceased August 11 at age 76. Steve was predeceased by his parents William and Shirley Vickery. He is survived by his loving wife Betty; sons Patrick (Krystal), Sean (Brooke) and Timothy (Jessica), 4 adored grandchildren - Conor, Cora, Claire and Rowan. Sisters Judith (Edward) Wooley, Katherine St. John and Susan (David) Savage; several loved nieces and nephews and other loving family and friends.

Steve served in the US Navy as a gunner’s mate aboard the destroyer, the Myles C. Fox during the Vietnam War. He always talked about it being his chance to see the world. He kept in contact with several of his shipmates over the years and took great enjoyment in each issue of the “Tin Can Sailor” which was delivered each month. After his discharge, he attended Niagara University where he obtained his degree in accounting and his wife Betty. Steve worked in general accounting for over 40 years until his retirement.

Steve was an avid fan of the Buffalo Bills, Sabres and San Francisco Giants, but his greatest joy was watching his sons play sports, especially hockey. He was an enthusiastic hockey dad - there at every early morning practice, game and tournament. He volunteered for whatever was needed - the clock, the score keeper, the penalty box…. He was also a Boy Scout dad - including camping and road trips. In his later years, his grandchildren were his favorite source of entertainment and delight. He absolutely loved being Papa!

Besides his family and friends, his greatest enjoyment was music. Everyone knew he was a big Dead Head and wore his Dead shirts and Jerry Garcia ties proudly. Steve always said he had seen the greatest musicians of our generation. The concert at Watkins Glen in 1973 with the Dead, the Band and the Allman Bros. was his summit.

The family would like to thank all of you for the support and love you have given us.
