Listen to Obituary

Richard “Dick” Moyer, 93, died peacefully at home in Churchville, NY, on May 20, 2026. He is predeceased by his wife, Sandra Moyer, daughter, Cynthia Moyer, and three older brothers, George, Francis and Russell Moyer.

Dick is survived by his brother, Paul (Kay) Moyer of Eureka Springs, AR, his daughters, Cathy (Jim) Kjellsen of Centennial, CO and Joanne (Steve) French of Rochester, NY, grandchildren, Andrew (Shannon) Kjellsen, Alex (Jaclyn) Kjellsen, Lauren (Collin) Eckelman, Emily French, Elizabeth (Nowlan) Savage, Keith (Halley) French, eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was born in Nelliston, NY (near Fort Plain) and attended Whitesboro High School (Utica, NY), where he played football, wrestled, pole vaulted, and was a gymnast. It’s also where he met his sweetheart, Sandra Yager, in 9th grade science class. In their senior year they were crowned King & Queen at the Senior Ball.

After graduation in 1951, he enlisted in the US Marines and served in the Korean War from 1951-1954. He came home to marry Sandy. They were one month shy of their 64th anniversary when Sandy passed away in 2018.

Dick attended RIT through the GI Bill, where he was also on the wrestling team. After graduating with a degree in Electrical Engineering, he began his 30-year career with IBM in Endicott, NY. During that time, he and Sandy raised their 3 girls and spent every weekend skiing or camping as a family and spending time visiting extended family. Family and friends have always been the most important part of his life.

He and Sandy were both USTA league tennis players and enjoyed tennis, golf and skiing vacations with friends and family for many years. They learned to play pickleball while snow-birding in Bluffton, SC, and were both instrumental in the growth of pickleball in the Rochester area.

Dick worked into his early 80’s. After retiring from IBM, he and other IBM retirees created a business together, followed by working at the YMCA and then as a Starter at Oak Hill Country Club. He played golf, pickleball and skied into his 90’s. He lived life to the fullest until his last day!

We are beyond grateful for the palliative and hospice care teams of Rochester Regional Health, who cared for Dick and guided us (his daughters) gracefully and lovingly.
