Nora Ives Smith

Nora Ives Smith died on Friday, August 21, 2026 at the age of 73 in her city of residence, Rochester, NY. She was predeceased by her father, Joseph “Bud” Ives; mother, Dorothy Ives; and siblings, John Ives and Judy (Richard) Wereley. She is survived by her loving husband, Terry Smith; daughter, Theresa Smith (Ryan); sisters, Cecelia (late James) Schug and Mary Jo Ives; brother-in-law, Richard Wereley, many beloved nieces, nephews and their children, along with many friends who were family to her. Nora’s happiest moments were spent with her loved ones around her. She was known for her irreverent and ever-present sense of humor and she laughed as often as she could with friends and family. It was important to her to ensure everyone she loved always knew she was thinking of them, usually by sending cards for every occasion or long text messages. In her later years she found joy, peace, and purpose in moments of creativity, donating to causes she cared about, seeing her plants inside and out thriving, and spending time with her family, friends, and her dog, Tina. Nora earned her Bachelor of Nursing from the University of Rochester in 1992 and served the community as a Registered Nurse for her entire career from then on. She worked for 13 years in the Burn Trauma Intensive Care Unit at Strong Memorial Hospital, provided cardiac care in the community with Lifetime Care, and worked as a nursing supervisor in Long Term Care Facilities, The Highlands at Brighton and Edna Tina Wilson Living Center. She was extremely proud of her work as a nurse and will have a Nurse Honor Guard present at her private graveside ceremony in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass with reception following at St. Charles Borromeo church at 3003 Dewey Avenue, Rochester, NY. Date and time TBD.
