Nelson Monagas

Nelson Monagas, 62, of Rochester, NY, passed away on June 11th, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Nelson Monagas was born August 19th, 1962, in Rochester, NY, the son of Mary Fernandez (Garcia) and Raul Monagas. Predeceased by his parents, Raul Monagas, Mary Fernandez (Stepfather Cruz (Ray) Fernandez), his sister Mildred Monagas and brothers Raul Jr., and Michael Monagas. Remaining to cherish Nelson Monagas’ memory are his daughters, Cristina Holmes and Marilyn Monagas; his sister, Marilyn Monagas; his nieces and nephew, Malissa Monagas, Santo Monagas, and Marlene Ferrer; and many more loved ones.

A sharpshooter in the U.S. Army and yet a beautiful writer. Tough and vulnerable. If you were lucky to receive a letter from Nelson, you would see the attention to detail in his penmanship. See him through words. Thanks to the staff at Rochester General Hospital, the MICU team were true heroes in the care of Nelson. Nelson’s Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, August 16th, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Casa Mia on the Hill, located in Indian Hill Country Club, 111 Golf Street, Newington, CT 06111.
