Mike Madigan of Fairport, NY, aged 77, passed away peacefully on April 7th, surrounded by friends and family, after a brief and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Mike was a fiercely loyal husband, father, brother, and friend. He was known for his passion for golf- if he wasn’t playing a round at Ravenwood, he was likely at the driving range or practicing his short game (because despite being a 6x Men’s Club Champion at Locust Hill, he was perpetually refining his swing). He loved sharing the game with his father and son during their annual trips to Arizona. Even in his final moments, he insisted to his son to keep practicing and playing.
Mike’s passion for the sport was matched only by his appreciation for fine wine and good food. He found great joy working alongside Don at Bombace Wine and Spirits, and delighted in sharing his favorite experiences (and restaurants) with others.
Anyone who met Mike quickly became a friend. He had a genuine curiosity about people and was always eager to connect: “Do you golf?” he’d ask, and if not, “Why not?” Or perhaps, “Do you like Greek food?” and if the answer was no, he’d ask, “Why not?!” Mike’s enthusiasm for life was infectious; he loved with his whole heart and took every opportunity to bring joy to others and share the things he adored.
Mike is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Jean Madigan; his son, Michael Madigan (Isabelle Heilman); his stepson, Jim Daily (Katie); his stepdaughter, Laura Daily (Chad Cleveland); his granddaughters, Nora Daily, Harper Daily, and Sophia Cleveland; his sister, Jo Ann Madigan; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kathy and Mark Gilbert; his brother-in-law, Edward Stringham; his many beloved nieces and nephews and their families, and an incredible group of golf buddies that he considered brothers.
He was predeceased by his parents, Tom and Sally Madigan, and his sister, Patty Madigan Stringham, and his adored brother-in-law, David Chatfield.
Mike will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Those closest to him know that one day, we’ll see him again on the 19th hole.A private celebration in Mike’s honor will be held by the family at their convenience. Donations in his memory may be made to Wilmot Cancer Center’s Annual Fund.
