Gone fishing…
Michael John Sixbey, husband, father, and brother, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2026 at 69 years old.
Mike was born in Rochester, New York on July 21, 1956. He graduated from SUNY Brockport with a degree in accounting. He had a career in accounting, but his true passion was being outdoors and on the water.
Mike loved fishing and hunting. His very favorite place was his cottage in Ontario, Canada. He was an avid fisherman and felt most at home when he had a rod in hand. He believed that patience, a good spot, and not talking too much were essential to success for obtaining that catch. Some of the fondest family memories that will live on are from fishing on Canonto Lake. A glass of wine, fishing, playing darts, horseshoes, and enjoying time outdoors will remain a core memory. Mike had a sarcastic sense of humor, which will be greatly missed. Though his final line has been cast, his spirit lives on; not only amongst his loved ones, but in the streams and lakes as well.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Dolores Sixbey, and his beloved dog Sam and cat Slick. He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Sattora) Sixbey, his two daughters Julie (Paul) Bakerman and Caitlin Sixbey, his sisters Linda (Gary) Jones, and Susan Sixbey, along with four step daughters, ten grandchildren, his nephew, niece, and lifelong best friend.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, February 15, 2026 from 12pm-3pm at Giuseppe’s Restaurant, 50 Spencerport Road in Rochester, New York. This is an open event. We welcome you to pay a visit with the family and share memories of Mike.
In lieu of flowers, please consider casting a line, enjoying the outdoors, or telling a sarcastic joke in his memory.
