Listen to Obituary

Michael T. Cathers, 73, of Rochester passed away peacefully on April 14th, 2026. Born to Marie (Doran) and George Cathers in Manlius, NY, Michael was predeceased by his wife Trudy Cathers and is survived by his former wife and mother of his children Karen Erickson-Chapman, his children Craig Cathers and his fiancé Coreana Fairbanks, Matthew (Jennifer) Cathers, Jerris (Matthew) Falk, his grandchildren Henry, Elena, Gunnar, Hadley, Julian, his brother Dick Cathers, sister Carol Earl, and his nieces and nephews. Michael also leaves behind his partner of the past 13 years Teresa Lallucci of Rochester and her children Katlin (Nir) Horesh and Ryan (Heather) Bobzin, and her grandchildren Liam, Reef, and Olivia. Many thanks to Richard and Channa Lallucci for their support.

Michael was a graduate of Fayetteville-Manlius High School (class of 1971) and had attended SUNY at Morrisville where he had studied Natural Resources Conservation. He was a retired building maintenance manager who worked for GST BOCES in Elmira and the Onondaga County Department of Parks and Recreation.

Michael was an avid outdoorsman, motorcycle enthusiast, and craftsman who found his peace in fishing, traveling, and working on projects around the house. He was a man that took pride in a job well done and knew the story behind every tool he owned, of which there were many. A lover of westerns, John Wayne and the lore of Wyatt Earp in particular, he closely identified with the frontier cowboy aesthetic. He had a curiosity that extended to all things as evidenced by his avid reading and daily intake of the news. A pragmatic person to the end his greatest joy came in acts of service to those he loved.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
