Webster, NY – Mary Lou Lockemeyer, 96, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully on May 25, 2026 surrounded by loved ones. Born in 1929 in Rochester, NY, Mary Lou graduated from Nazareth Academy and earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from SUNY Brockport in 1951. She used this foundation to teach grade school in the Brighton School District before marrying Robert Lockemeyer and starting a family.
Mary Lou brought joy and warmth to everyone she encountered by listening with genuine interest. She made friends easily, making all she encountered feel special and accepted. Mary Lou was best known for her thirst to learn and could often be found reading on a wide variety of subjects. She had a special talent for interior design and colors, and thus able to transform a non-descript space into an orchestration of simple beauty. She formalized this gift at age fifty by earning her degree of Interior Design at the Rochester Institute of Technology and pursuing a second career in the field. Mary Lou also enjoyed gardening, and she made her back yard into a serene and beautiful space.
Mary Lou (“Mimi” to her grandchildren) is survived by her children Stephen (Jennifer), Johanna, John (Molly), Barbara (Tony), and Suzanne (Craig); grandchildren Kaitlyn, Mary, Jennifer, Johanna, Lauren, Benjamin, Jack, Leah; and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother Phillip, parents Louis and Mary, and former husband Robert.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church at 10AM on Wednesday June 17, 2026. The family would like to thank the staff at Maplewood Nursing Home for the time that she was in their loving care.
