Mark van der Kloet IV

February 7, 1957 — June 1, 2025

Myrtle Beach

Mark van der Kloet IV peacefully passed away on June 1, 2025, at the age of 68, with his three daughters by his side.

Mark departs this life to join his mother and father, Carley Summerton Wiggins and Mark van der Kloet III. He is survived by his three daughters, Katrina (Greg), Erika (Mike) and Monika (Justin) and seven grandchildren, Ava, Brysand, Evan, River, Amelia, Enalya and Adrian, who lovingly call him “Opa.” His memory will be kept alive for them through stories shared about him, games of Bingo and Tripoli, and by taking time to be present and cherish the time they’ll spend together over the years. He is also survived by his brother Bruce (Carol), sister Gretchen (Mark), several nieces and nephews, and his girlfriend, Tita.

Mark dedicated his entire professional life, from age 22 up until retirement, to the company that developed into the Smurfit Westrock Organization, where he helped shape and support the careers of hundreds. Through decades of hard work and steady leadership, he left behind a lasting legacy of guidance and integrity.

Outside of his career, Mark loved traveling and being outdoors—especially near the water. He found joy in boating, fishing, and walking along the beach. One of the highlights of his life was a trip to Hawaii with his daughters to celebrate his 60th birthday together—a once in a lifetime vacation that the girls will carry with them forever.

He will be remembered in many ways by those who knew him and deeply missed by his family, especially his grandchildren. A private celebration of life will be held by his family to commemorate his life. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mark’s name may also be made to the Amelia Island Sea Turtle Watch, a cause close to his heart, reflecting his love for the ocean and coastal life:

The family also welcomes stories in the comments about how Mark has affected your life for the better. These memories will be shared with his grandchildren as they grow and cherished as another insight into the life of their wonderful Opa.
