Listen to Obituary

Marcia Lynn Johnson (Liss) passed away on Dec. 9, 2025, after a short illness, surrounded by family and friends. Marcia was born on May 29, 1952, in Buffalo, NY, to Leonard and Mary (Genga) Johnson, who predeceased her.

Marcia was full of life and love. She had a sense of humor rivaled by few and she enjoyed the arts in all forms. She acted in small theater productions, wrote poetry and enjoyed a good beer and good music. Her love of Bob Dylan's music and lyrics led her to meet and maintain years'-long friendships with other "Dylan Heads." She loved children and they loved her in return for her playful nature and caring spirit. She was a friend of cats, dogs, spiders and bees, and everything in between. Her wanderlust led her to travel across Canada in her youth, settling briefly in Boulder, CO. In later years, she lived in Elmira and Horseheads, NY, and in Elkhorn, WI, with her close friend Bob Schuren. A testament to her life was the presence in her last hours of her friend of 47 years, Patricia (Jonathan) Breux of Elmira, NY. Marcia leaves a legacy of kindness, fun and rebellious mischief.

Marcia is survived by her partner of several years, Jack LoCastro of Rochester, NY; daughter, Renée (Christopher) Law of Tallahassee, FL; granddaughter, Emma (Aaron Troupe) Liss of Tallahassee, FL; great-granddaughter, Avery Troupe of Tallahassee, FL; sister, Sandra (Harold) Davis of Elma, NY; ex-husband Irwin (Nancy) Liss of Horseheads, NY; several nieces and nephews, including Jeffrey (Barbara) Davis, Eric (Julie) Davis, Brendan (Ann Marie) Davis, Amy (Cameron) Hall, Gillian (Jason) Norris, Daria Michelson and Caty Michelson; brother-in-law Ronald (Anita) Liss; sisters-in-law Patricia Greenspan and Roslyn (Roger) Michelson; several cousins; and close friends spanning the globe.

The family will hold a celebration of life in June 2026 in Canaseraga, NY. To honor her memory, in lieu of flowers, plant some native flora to feed the nature she loved, or make a donation to the American Cancer Society.
