Lloyd “Grampy” Cannon, a devoted follower of Christ, loving father, grandfather, and friend, passed into the arms of his Savior on January 5, 2025, in Henrietta, New York, at the age of 91. Born on April 18, 1933, in Everett, Washington, Lloyd lived a life marked by faith and a deep love for his family.
Lloyd was united in marriage to the love of his life, Margaret “Peggy” Joyce Clarke, on August 7, 1952. Their marriage was a testament to love and faithfulness until Peggy’s passing on August 26, 1995, in their hometown of Everett.
Lloyd had two careers – the first as a life insurance broker, building strong, trusting relationships with his clients. Later he was the owner of Industrial Janitorial Services, where his attention to detail and commitment to quality earned him the respect of those he served.
Lloyd took pride in his Cherokee heritage, a meaningful part of his identity. Through documented research he traced his lineage back to the Dawes Rolls which led him to become an officially recognized member of the Cherokee Nation.
A man of many interests and talents, Lloyd had a lifelong interest in astronomy, history—particularly World War II—and a passion for reading. Whether it was western novels, Biblical scholarship, or theological works, Lloyd could often be found deepening his understanding in the pages of a book.
He loved music, especially hymns, and was known for his strong singing voice. In his younger years, he enjoyed hiking, biking, swimming, body surfing at the beaches near his home in California, chemistry and mathematics. Lloyd was an Eagle Scout and also served in ministry outreach and as a leader in his church.
Lloyd is survived by three of his sisters who knew him as “Bunky”, Judy Lontoe, Kathlene (Jeff) Backer, and Shawna Valentine, his daughter, Julanne (Julie) Joyce Salmon, and her husband, James (Jim) F. Salmon; and by his daughter-in-law, Carreen Sager Cannon, wife of his late son, Richard (Rick) Bruce Cannon. Rick’s memory lives on in the hearts of those who loved him, and Lloyd now rejoins him and Peggy in the presence of the Lord. Also survived by three grandchildren Andrew (Claire) Salmon and their children Rowan, Julian, Gloria, Jasper, and Ari; Josiah (Rebekah) Salmon and their daughter Victoria; Jessica (Lance) Teitsworth and their sons Levi and Cyrus.
Lloyd’s life was a testimony to the grace of God. He will be deeply missed, but we rejoice knowing he is now home—free, whole, and adding his baritone to the chorus of saints.
