Born on March 26th, 1958, in Syracuse, NY, Kathy attended Corcoran High School and Buffalo State University to prepare for a career in elementary education with undergraduate and graduate degrees in education, special education, and speech therapy. Kathy was a devoted teacher and lifelong learner who influenced countless lives through her passion for teaching and her unwavering belief in the potential of every student. With warmth, wisdom, and integrity, she inspired many teachers in formation and students in her classes to think critically, care deeply, and to strive for excellence both in, and beyond, the classroom.
Kathy lived every day with a heart full of faith and an enduring love which was woven into everything that she did. She walked closely with God through every phase of her life, which helped her to develop a quiet but immeasurable strength, a generous spirit, and a joy that reflected her deeply held beliefs. She shared this devotion with members of her community through her work and volunteering at the Abbey of the Genesee, a place she held very close to her heart.
Kathy’s demonstrated passion for the Buffalo Bills was rivaled only by her love of Hallmark movies, theatre, and music, with some of her favorite artists being James Taylor, Stevie Nicks, and Stevie Wonder, who she loved to sing and dance to. Sharing these interests with others brought Kathy great joy.
To be loved, seen, and heard by Kathy was a profound gift, and her empathetic nature and ability to meet each person exactly where they were positively impacted the lives of many. She will be fondly remembered as someone whose true purpose in life was to spread love and bring comfort to all who were lucky enough to cross paths with her.
For those that would like to do so, please consider making donations to St. Agnes School in Avon, NY in Kathy’s honor, where she taught and volunteered for many years.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date by the Ragan family.
Love is the thing, LITT.
