On the evening of Sunday, June 22, 2025, the angels welcomed Joshua Kidney into the light.
Josh was born in Lockport, New York, on October 19, 1983, and spent many memorable years growing up in New Hampshire. It was there, amid the forests and trails, that his deep love for nature took root nurtured by countless summers hiking Mount Washington.
Josh was called to serve, earning his nursing degree and continuing his path of caring through his work at Rochester Presbyterian Home and, most recently, at VNS/UR HomeCare & Hospice. Josh had a calming presence and a gift for making others feel truly seen and heard.
Josh’s heart found its home at Isaiah House, a sacred place where he both worked and volunteered. It was there he met his beloved wife, Andrea. Over the years, he tended to hundreds of patients and families, walking with them through life’s most tender moments. Hospice nursing was not just a profession for Josh, it was his calling. He brought dignity, peace, and compassion to those in their final days.
Of all his roles, Josh cherished none more deeply than that of father. He adored his three beautiful children: Illyonna Willow (16), Juniper Grace (12), and Silas Isaac (1).
Josh is lovingly remembered by his wife, Andrea Strecker; mother, Denise (Bill) Johnson; brothers, Jon (Ashley) and Jacob (Hang); Papa Duane Carl; and his cherished nieces and nephews: Matthew, Owen, Lauren, and Sunny. He also leaves behind many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, dear friends, and extended family. Josh was preceded in death by his father, Mark Kidney.
A celebration of Josh’s life will be held on Saturday, August 16, at 2:00 p.m. at Spiritus Christi Church, followed by a party in the garden at Isaiah House (1005 East Ave).
In lieu of flowers, a Hospice Nursing Scholarship will be established in Josh’s memory. Donations can be made at theisaiahhouse.org/donate.
Josh had a soul attuned to the wild and the poetic. He will be remembered in the butterflies and wild places where nature sings.
