John M. Kane

FAIRPORT, NY - July 14, 2025, at age 77. He passed peacefully in hospice after battling Alzheimer’s. John is predeceased by his parents, stepparents, stepsiblings James and Robert Schilder, and step-grandchild Paul Connelly. He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 55 years, Alice J. Kane, and his daughter Christine Connelly (Eliecia Young), and son, Brett Kane; grandchildren Kevin and Abby Connelly (Cameron Smith) and Ashlynn Simpson; step-grandchildren, Scott (Kristin) Connelly, Katrina Connelly (Kevin O’Donnell), Max, Maddie, McKenna, Maddox, and Mitchell Young; great-grandchildren Vivian and August O’Donnell, and Polaris Rose Smith. He's also survived by his stepbrother, John Schilder, and stepsister, JoAnn Schilder Alfred, as well as his former son-in-law, Michael “Sammy” Connelly, and many great friends and family members he has had over the years.

John was a Vietnam War Veteran, serving as a medical corpsman in the US army, where he received 2 overseas bars and the following medals: National Defense Service, Vietnam Campaign, Vietnam Service, and Purple Heart. He was an avid hunter, softball player, golfer, and bowler, known for his ability to break pins. He loved his classic cars, especially his 1955 Chevy Bel Air, and time on his Harley-Davidson. He was a devoted Dolphins fan until the very end. He spent most of his working career at RG&E. John was loved, always ready for a good time with a laugh that filled up a room.

Join his family and friends in remembering his great life on Tuesday, July 29th at New Comer Funeral Home (2636 Ridgeway Avenue, Rochester, NY 14626). Calling hours will be from 4 – 6 pm with a memorial service following at 6 pm.
