JEAN E. SIMS
ROCHESTER, NY
Jean Elperiole Sims passed away peacefully in the presence of her daughters May 27, 2025. Born August 5, 1950, she was born to Emma Jean Beverly and Ben Grissom in Alexandria, Louisiana. Raised by her Aunt Rebecca and Uncle Clyde McGee, mom completed her education in Greenwood, Mississippi and further attended Mississippi Valley State College where she obtained a Bachelors Degree in Education.
September 10, 1969, mom was blessed with her first child, Felicia (Sims) Phillips. She migrated to Rochester NY in 1975 where she met her long time partner, Wiley Tubbs, and in 1980, proceeded to have her 2nd daughter, Talauna Sims. Shortly after, in 1985, she had Sherquita Sims, her baby girl.
Jean worked 15 years at Rochester General Hospital in the Emergency Department. If you knew her, you knew she was loud, she loved her short hair, fancy nails, and her lottery numbers. Momma always played her numbers and made sure you played them too! She loved her flowers and was well known on Avenue D for having the best decorated yard in the summer.
Jean is preceded in death by her biological mother, Emma Jean Beverly and her adopted parents Rebecca and Clyde McGee; her brothers Frederick Jackson, Robert Lee, Norman, Darrell, Greory and sister, Bertha Evelyn.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband, Wiley Tubbs, daughters- Felicia Phillips, Talauna Sims, and Sherquita Sims; Siblings-Clarice, Wayne (Tracie), Sandra, Janice, Rosalind, Jacqueline (Frank), and younger sister, Charlene. Her loving grandchildren- Jazmin Nicole Phillips, Natasia Monet Phillips, Skylar Olivia Sims-Williams, and Avery Norvel Simmons; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to acknowledge Jean’s closest friends, Trudy and her son Tony, Judy, Karen, Marietta, and Monica. Your love and attention to our mother during her last years of life will never go unnoticed. We appreciate and love you dearly!
