Elaine Marie Mattern
June 21, 1944 – March 15, 2026
Elaine Marie Mattern, a woman whose warmth and energy could light up any room, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2026, at the age of 81. A longtime resident of Spencerport, NY, Elaine lived a life defined by a "sparkle" that no challenge could ever dull.
Elaine was a natural nurturer, a quality that guided her early career in nursing and later followed her to the darkrooms of Kodak, where she helped develop the images of others' lives. However, her greatest masterpieces were the ones she captured herself. Alongside the love of her life and husband, Jerry, Elaine traveled the world with a camera in hand and wonder in her eyes. While her travels took her across the globe, her heart belonged to the raw beauty of Yellowstone. She saw the world as an endless opportunity to see new things, a philosophy that kept her walking and exploring every chance she got.
At home, Elaine’s nurturing spirit bloomed in her garden. She took immense pride in her yard, hand-cutting vibrant bouquets to craft into arrangements for those she loved. To receive a bouquet from Elaine was to receive a piece of her heart.
A true "foodie," Elaine was always eager to try a new cuisine or a sweet treat—though she’d famously insist on having "only a sliver." She met life with a curious spirit and a signature piece of advice: "You never know until you try!"
Elaine was a rare listener who remembered every small detail of a conversation, always following up weeks or months later out of genuine care. She was, in every sense of the words, loving, selfless, and warm.
Elaine was predeceased by her beloved husband, Gerald E. Mattern Sr.; her sister, Beverley Andrews; her brother, Delbert Cronk; her nephew, D. Michael Andrews; and her grandson, Benjamin.
Her legacy of love lives on through her children: Michael (Shirley) Mattern, Jerry Jr. (Mary) Mattern, Susan Ledezma, Jennifer (Brandon) Sweet, and John (Sherri Rossi) Lundberg III. She was the proud grandmother of Jennifer (Alex) Whitfield, Amy (David) Pillittieri, Jacob (Shannan) Mattern, Rebekah Mattern, Jillian (Daniel) Reitano, Ryan (Taisha) Mattern, Kendra (Joe) Stocking, Kelsey (Jose) Ledezma-Rebollo, Katherine Carditello, Cristina (David) Loomis, Gabriella Carditello, and Brittany Barone. She was also a cherished great-grandmother to 19 great-grandchildren who will miss her dearly.
In honor of Elaine’s memory and her spirit of care, donations may be made to the Wilmot Cancer Institute.
