Edmund W Chapin, 100 years young, of Rochester, New York, passed away peacefully at Unity Hospital on April 20, 2026. He had only just been admitted earlier that day. Edmund lived independently for 60 years in his N. Chili home with his late wife, Jean that they purchased in 1962 and subsequently spent the last four years of his life in an assisted living community in Greece, NY – near enough for his best friend and oldest granddaughter Katie Chapin to visit him every weekend for lunch together and an afternoon of pure joy enjoying one another’s company.
Born October 8, 1925, Edmund was the oldest of six children. He was welcomed into heaven by his beloved wife of almost 70 years, Eleanor Jean Chapin. He is predeceased by his brothers - William Chapin, Robert Chapin and his sisters Lori Grosskopf & Dorothy (Dottie) Hake. He is survived by his only child and son – Robert (Susan) Chapin, much loved granddaughters: Katherine (Katie) Chapin and Meghan Chapin, great granddaughter Eliana (Ellie) Cantone, his sister Helen Bonin, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was also survived by a dear friend of many years – Jo-Ann (Kevin) Halloran.
Ed (aka Papa) enjoyed a 100th birthday party last October with extended family and friends at Red Lobster, his favorite restaurant. He thoroughly enjoyed himself, especially with Meghan, Ellie and Bobby flying in for the occasion from Florida. There were speeches, delicious food, a cake and lots of best wishes!
A Memorial Service will be held on June 14, 2026 in the Third Presbyterian Chapel, located at 4 Meigs Street, (corner of Meigs Street & East Ave), Rochester, NY at 2:00 PM. A Celebration of Life will be held immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall at the church.
