Dorothy Kayley Bayer, 84, passed peacefully on July 23rd following a brief hospitalization. Born in Rochester, NY, to parents Murray and Arlene Kayley, her parents, brother Murray, and sister Elizabeth pre-deceased her.
Dorothy is survived by her husband Clem (Red) Bayer, brother Bill Kayley, stepdaughters Carina Bayer (Perry Lancianese), Kimm (Andrew) Branch, and granddaughter Helen Branch.
Dorothy was a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor. Her second career and greatest achievements were as an expert breeder of Cairn Terriers. Her success rate included 19 Finished Champions.
As a trained counselor, Dorothy trained police dogs, and worked with Massasauga Search and Rescue, even training a cadaver dog that could search and find under water.
In 2019, 80 dogs were rescued from a home where they were starving and suffering from neglect. She volunteered to assist in the care of these animals, personally grooming many of these dogs.
Dorothy was a parishioner at First Presbyterian Church of Honeoye Falls where she was a member of the choir. A Celebration of her life will be held on Saturday August 15th from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 3825 East Henrietta Road, Henrietta NY.
A reception will be held following the service.
