David J. Burke Sr.

April 12, 1937 – August 29, 2026

David J. Burke Sr., of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2026, at the age of 89. Born in Syracuse, David retired from Niagara Mohawk and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

He married his beloved wife, Barbara M. Burke, on May 27, 1961, and together they shared 65 years of marriage. David is survived by his children, Tracy B. Leonard and David J. Burke Jr. (Mary L. Burke); grandchildren, Shauna A. Leonard, Ryan B. Leonard, Matthew S. Leonard (Lauren Leonard), David J. Burke III, and Grace P. Burke; and great-granddaughter, Avery R. Leonard.

David enjoyed skiing, tennis, golf, reading, and watching sports. He especially loved spending time with his family in Florida, Bethany Beach, and Long Beach Island (LBI).
