Bruce Fisher, 71, of Bloomfield, NY, passed away peacefully on May 22nd 2025 surrounded by his family. Bruce’s final days were filled with the love of friends and family by his side.
Bruce is survived and missed by his loving wife of 49 years Ellen (Klaver) Fisher; daughter Rachel (husband Kevin) Fox; daughter Lyndsey (husband Brian) McGrath and grandson Connor McGrath; and brothers Doug (wife Mary) Fisher, Thomas (wife Georgie) Fisher and Ron (wife Deb) Fisher; as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Born November 6, 1953 in Rochester, NY to the late Malcolm “Smokey” and Patrica Fisher. Growing up in Ontario, NY, Bruce was a graduate and champion wrestler from Wayne Central School and continued on for an associates degree from Alfred State.
Bruce changed careers in the 90s from drafting to the restaurant business, opening Ellie’s Country Diner in downtown Bloomfield, NY, and continuing on as a chef for Ferris Hills in Canandaigua, NY. In his retirement, he took great pride in assisting his longtime friend Seth build and renovate beautiful homes in the Finger Lakes area.
Bruce’s love language was cooking for and with his friends and family, creating beautiful dishes and award winning sauces. He also loved the art of crafting beer, especially the art of sharing his and other amazing beers. He found an incredible community of friends at Other Half brewing, a place where he always felt at home.
Bruce has always been a fan of the Blues and 70s rock music. He loved to attend Blues concerts and small shows, especially with his brother Doug. Some of his favorite artists he was able to see in person included: Buddy Guy, Pink Floyd, Gov't Mule, Kansas, Papa Chubby, Guy Clark, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Warren Haynes, Susan Tedeschi and many more.
Bruce and all of his brothers are avid, life-long Buffalo Bills fans throughout all the highs and lows of the Bills seasons over the years - never missing a game on TV, the radio when necessary, or at Highmark Stadium. In the 90s he hosted multiple epic Super Bowl parties and will be watching from above for all future seasons and the long awaited Super Bowl Championship! His three brothers will continue to cheer even louder with him in their hearts.
Bruce always had a love of animals. Throughout their lives, he and Ellen had a veritable zoo including cats, dogs, a skunk, a tarantula and others, but his love was always with dogs. Early in their marriage, Bruce and Ellen started showing dogs with their English sheepdog Brutus, but he always had a special place in his heart for English bulldogs, a breed he was introduced to in his youth. Bruce worked hard to build an ethical line of beloved bulldogs as a breeder and exhibitor at dog shows. His championed Cowboy in the ring and his beautiful dogs even inspired artwork by artist Sara England.
Bruce and Ellen’s love across 49 years of marriage created a beautiful family and so many memories which will always be held close. Early in their marriage they lived in Virginia and South Carolina, where their oldest daughter Rachel was born. They later moved back to New York, settling in the town of Bloomfield just before the birth of their youngest daughter Lyndsey, and they lived happily there for over 40 years.
So many memories and laughs were shared at large family gatherings, holiday celebrations, picnics and clam bakes. The love of cooking extended to these celebrations where Bruce and all of his brothers tested out new recipes. They also loved visiting their daughter Rachel and son-in-law Kevin on the west coast, exploring some of the California coast and most recently the islands of Washington. Closer to home they tried hard not to miss a football, basketball, or baseball game that their grandson Connor played in, drum concerts, or school function along with his daughter Lyndsey and son-in-law Brian. It was Bruce’s true joy to watch Connor in his chosen sports and activities, cheering him on in every way!
A memorial celebration for Bruce will be held at a later date, so all who loved him can raise a glass in his honor.
There are no words that can express the gratitude we have for the family, friends, and caregivers who have provided so much support in the last few months of Bruce’s hard battle with cancer. Ellen, Rachel and Lyndsey ask that those who wish to make a donation in his memory, consider one of the following organizations which support the lives of the bulldogs he so loved, and toward medical advancements to benefit the battle of so many others with lung disease.
