Rochester, NY – Entered into Rest peacefully on Monday, August 10, 2026. Mr. VanGrol was born September 26,1961 in Loiret, France but spent most of his life in Rochester, New York. Raised in the 19th Ward, he was educated at #37 and #16 elementary schools, Interim Junior High School and eventually Edison Technical High School where he studied drafting and graduated in 1979.
He continued his education at Monroe Community College (AS, 1983), SUNY Albany (BA, 1985) and The Nelson A. Rockefeller School of Public Affairs where he earned his Master’s degree (MPA) in 1988. He subsequently was honored to work a few years as a Management Trainee and Municipal Assistant at Rochester’s City Hall and later with the New York State Assembly as a Legislative Aide from which he retired in 2018.
He had a lifetime affection for animals, especially his many cats over the years. He fulfilled a lifelong desire to be baptized publicly in the name of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He is predeceased by his biological father Norman F. Taylor, mother Georgia (Fox) VanGrol, brother Jeffrey (Carrie) VanGrol and sister Darlene (Gerard) Brugger. He is survived by his adopted father, Richard J. VanGrol Sr and his wife (Maria), brothers, Scott (Joanne) VanGrol, Sean VanGrol, Richard VanGrol and Eric (Bonnie) VanGrol, sisters, Robin (Joe) Bzduch and Tina Taylor; along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and longtime friends.
