Avram Kent, a gifted artist and nature lover of Rochester, NY, passed away on May 5, 2026. Born on April 19, 1971, in Rome, NY, Avram was a man of quiet depth who found his greatest love in the natural world and working with his hands.

Avram earned his degree in Fine Arts from Syracuse University. His love of wood-fired ceramics led him to study in Japan and then apprentice with renowned Abstract Expressionist ceramists Peter Callas and Peter Voulkos.

Avram shared his skills with students both in New York City and Western New York. He was also an accomplished woodworker whose craftsmanship can be found throughout Upstate New York.

Avram was rooted in the outdoors. From a youth spent skateboarding and snowboarding to passions for boatbuilding, camping, canoeing, and fishing, he moved through nature with a deep understanding and was most at home in the solitude of the woods and the ocean.

Though he was a quiet individual, Avram possessed a profound understanding of his connections to others. He viewed his relationships, both close and distant, as essential teachers in his life’s journey.

He is predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Gerald and Lucille Schuldt; his paternal grandparents, Lawrence and Laura Kent; and his stepmother, Debbie Kent.

He is survived by his father, Nigel Kent (Camden, NY); his mother, Robin Field (née Schuldt) (New Port Richey, FL); his brothers, Izaak Kent (Hartville, OH) and Elliot Kent (Camden, NY); and his friend and former wife, Suzanne Lefebvre (Rochester, NY). He also leaves behind a large community of uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews who will remember his authentic spirit.
