Angela Hauser, 57, passed away peacefully at home on July 6, 2025 in Henrietta, NY.
Angela was born on May 22, 1968 in Hartford, Connecticut. She was a devoted mother, daughter, sister, aunt, colleague, and friend. Angela’s laughter, wit, compassion, and determination impressed all who knew and loved her. From an early age, she grew up with American Sign Language – learning it from a beloved Deaf neighbor, Eleanor Farve, who she considered her second mom. Angela was a remarkable and much sought after ASL interpreter. She went on to become a manager of interpreters in the Department of Access Services at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID) at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) where she had been working as an interpreter since 2000. Angela mentored many interpreters and fostered Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion within the interpreting department and for deaf and hard of hearing students throughout RIT.
Angela was a woman of faith who was always quick to offer words of praise, kindness and love to others. Her humanity was extended towards animals, most especially her dog, Target, and cat, Haiku, as she has taken in many others over the years. She had been a devoted vegan since she was fourteen. She was a gifted storyteller and the most graceful signer, interpreter and communicator around. Angela exuded selflessness, compassion, and a real caring for others – often while facing a myriad of health challenges including a kidney disease and a battle against aggressive cancer. She navigated all this hardship with humor, courage, love, kindness and grace. She was pure magic. To know Angela was to love her and to be loved by her.
Angela’s most precious achievement was the birth and raising of her beloved daughter, Nya Hauser. She would burst at the seams with joy and love when discussing her daughter and the marvels of all she has become and is becoming.
In addition to being an amazing mom, Angela was a devoted daughter to her mother Ollie Brooks, an outstanding sister to her brother Tony Brooks, and a dedicated Auntie to his son Noah. Angela is also survived by Nya’s father, Peter Hauser and his partner Dan Eastman, Aunt Hazel Murphy, Cousin Percy Price, Cousin Fatima Cortez-Todd, Jeanette Brown and her children Charmaine, Mark, and Anna; James Brown and his children Jamison, Marcia, and Jermaine; Shirley Warner (Richard) and her sons Nathan and David; Chrissy Aquino and her children Natalya, Corina, and Arianna; Beejay Green (Bennie) and her son Cornelius Dennis II, Kancy Davie (and her son Matthew), and many other beloved family, friends, colleagues, and acquaintances.
Angela is predeceased by her loving Gram Stevenson, beloved Aunt Clara and Cousin Anthony, her beloved Aunt Tee Way and Cousin Guy, her beloved Aunt Margaret Brown, Uncles Johnny Washington, AJ Washington, Kasie Washington, and Zell Washington, her Cousin John (Johnnie) James (his surviving children are Jalisa and Siera).
